Factify has raised $73 million in seed funding, placing the round among the largest globally outside cybersecurity and artificial intelligence sectors. Founded in late 2023 by Professor Matan Gavish of Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the Israeli startup is building a next-generation digital document infrastructure designed for the AI era.

The Problem with PDFs

Factify addresses fundamental limitations of traditional PDF and DOCX formats that were designed decades ago for human-only consumption. The company argues that in an era where software agents increasingly process business documents, the static, opaque nature of PDFs creates friction. Unlike legacy formats, Factify's documents track access, manage versions, control permissions, and allow software agents to extract data and insights automatically—what the company calls "intelligent documents."

Investment and Leadership

The round was led by Valley Capital Partners with participation from notable technology and business leaders including John Giannandrea (former Head of AI at Google and SVP of AI at Apple), Ken Moelis (Founder of investment bank Moelis & Co.), and Peter Brown (CEO of quantitative hedge fund Renaissance Technologies). The caliber of investors signals confidence that document infrastructure is ripe for disruption.

Target Markets

Factify is running paid pilot programs with organizations in highly regulated industries including banking, insurance, legal services, human resources, and operations—sectors where document governance, authenticity, and auditability are critical. The company employs approximately 40 people, primarily in Israel with additional staff in the United States, and plans to use the funding to scale its platform and expand into additional enterprise verticals.
