Automated Project Initiation Requests
The headline feature in OpenProject 17.1 is automated project initiation requests, available as an Enterprise add-on. This capability helps structure the project initiation process in a dedicated workflow, allowing teams to collect all required information directly within OpenProject and track the initiation status transparently. Teams can eliminate the coordination overhead of emails, spreadsheets, or meetings by centralizing project requests in a standardized process.
Meetings Module and Performance Enhancements
The meetings module received significant upgrades, including the ability to add new or existing work packages as outcomes, show iCal responses directly in OpenProject, and duplicate agenda items to recurring meetings. These improvements make it easier for teams to connect meeting discussions to actionable work items and maintain consistency across recurring sessions.
Performance improvements include progressive loading of the work package Activity tab, where activities now load incrementally instead of all at once. This change significantly reduces wait times when viewing work packages with extensive activity histories.
Community Edition Features
OpenProject 17.1 brings attribute highlighting to the Community edition, making it available to all users rather than limiting it to Enterprise customers. The update also introduces an optional warning before opening external links added by users, improving security awareness.
